Ethanol Giving Monsanto A Boost

Monsanto, the world's biggest seed producer, said third quarter profit rose 71% because of high corn demand for producing ethanol. Rising ethanol production drove corn prices to a 10-year high and strengthened demand for genetically modified seeds that boost yields. U.S. farmers by 2010 will plant 185 million to 205 million acres of modified corn seed, compared with a previous forecast of 135 million to 150 million acres and this year's total of 120 million acres.
